5 Steps to Ruin Employee Experience

I was invited recently to Szilvia Fehér's studio, to the Mindset Bites Podcasts.

In this episode, we discussed my own experiences – as a consultant and as an employee myself – the ultimate guide to successfully ruin employee experience. Do you want to know how to build a toxic work environment? Then continue reading and find it out... if you dare! Warning: Don’t try this at work unless you’re fully prepared to own the chaos and painful consequences! 😉

The Hungarian speaking podcast could be listened to on Spotify: https://lnkd.in/dc6K6Kmp or on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dwswpGsW

  1. The Foundation of Failure

🏊‍♀️ Pseudo-Onboarding: Even if your onboarding process is non-existent, pretend it's amazing! Offer some safety training and hope the new employees don't ask when the real onboarding starts. If they do, throw them into the deep end.

🙃 Confuse Expectations: Introduce the company culture as supportive and respectful... then assign a critical project with tight deadlines and unrealistic expectations. Tell them not to worry about results, though!

  1. Setting Them Up to Fail

😈 Test Their Limits: How long before the new hire realizes it's a trap? The project's doomed, resources are missing, and you play innocent about systemic failures. It's all part of the test.

🤷‍♀️Withhold Support: Make sure the team's too busy to help, and no one knows how to solve the challenges. They'll be so relieved it's not their turn to suffer. After all, struggling together is a team-building exercise… right?

  1. Ignoring and Neglecting

💅 Avoid Feedback: Why waste time on performance management? Skip goal-setting and evaluations altogether. If they beg for feedback, focus solely on the negatives and ignore all achievements. Brutal honesty, darling!

👤 Stay Distant: Talk endlessly about 'building a great team' but always find excuses to avoid team-building activities. Keep personal connections to a minimum. After all, they're just employees, not your friends.

  1. The Illusion of Progress

✨Fake Progress: Use all the latest buzzwords – agile, innovative, dynamic! – but never actually do any of it. Hold 'agile' meetings without discussing agility. It's all about the appearance of progress.

📜 Resist Change: Stick to the old ways! Why bother with creativity or innovation? If they suggest improvements, scold them for challenging the status quo. Policies are sacred!

  1. The Final Act

🙏 Show Fake Empathy: When team members face personal challenges, offer superficial sympathy... but don't bother remembering your colleagues' personal details. Who cares how many kids they have? Thoughts and prayers!

💀 Control Everything: Let them think they have autonomy, then start micromanaging everything they do. Too much freedom risks losing control! Keep a tight leash!

In case you've followed all 5 steps... congratulations (not really)! You've successfully created a toxic work environment. Now, the real question: how to fix this? Let's connect and discuss!
